In the 4th step, if you see the denominator: (a+b) (a-b) = (a^2-b^2) (using the formula).
It becomes 3^2 -(2 root 2)^2.
Which is 9 - (4 * 2),
=> 9 - 8 = 1.

3 + 2^2 = 5.828. Where ^x = ^5.818 = 2.414.
So, ^x - 1/^x = 2.414 - (1/2.414) = 2 =>answer.
