In a mixture 60 litres, the ratio of milk and water 2 : 1. If this ratio is to be 1 : 2, then the quantity of water to be further added is:
20 litres
30 litres
40 litres
60 litres
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Quantity of milk = 60 x 2 litres = 40 litres.
3

Quantity of water in it = (60- 40) litres = 20 litres.

New ratio = 1 : 2

Let quantity of water to be added further be x litres.

Then, milk : water = 40 .
20 + x

Now, 40 = 1
20 + x 2

20 + x = 80

x = 60.

Quantity of water to be added = 60 litres.

2x + x = 60,
x = 20.

Then milk =2*20 = 40,
water = 20.
New ratio=sum of mixtures(new)
1:2 = 40+20+x,
3x = 60+x,
x = 30.
Now, water to be added = 2 * 20 = 60.

Guys can anybody help me with this problem. The length and breadth of a rectangle is 57m and 38m respectively. Find the ratio of the length to breadth.

This Question can also be solved as:

2x/x = 60,
X = 30.
New ratio is 1:2.
Where 1 part is milk.
Nd 2x is water put the value of x.
Hence water = 60.

In question, they have mentioned if this ratio is to be..

Does that mean 2: 1 to be simply changed to 1:2 why did they link both? Please explain me.

Mixture = 60 litre
ratio is 2: 1 , so milk:water=40:20
New ration= 1: 2
so , 40lr means 1
and x lr means 2
then make cross mul
x = 40*2/1
x = 80 lr

If 60 liters of the water is added, then the mixture contains only water because the mixture is of 60 liters. What about the milk in the mixture?

Alligation.

Take ratio of milk.

2/3.0.

1/3.

1/3.1/3.

Assume x as the amount of water to be added.

Therefore 60/x = 1/3 * 3/1.

X = 60.

Total mixture x=60 ltrs.

a:b=2:1(old ratio) c:d=1:2(new ratio).

x(ad-bc)/c(a+b).

= 60(2*2-1*1)/1(2+1).
= 60(4-1)/3.
= 60*3/3.
= 60 ltrs.

Total = 60.
Milk: water 2:1 means 40:20.
60*40/20 = 120.
1:2 new ratio, then water added
120 = 40:80.

Then,
120*40/80 = 60.
Thank you.
