Salaries of Ravi and Sumit are in the ratio 2 : 3. If the salary of each is increased by Rs. 4000, the new ratio becomes 40 : 57. What is Sumit's salary?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the original salaries of Ravi and Sumit be Rs. 2x and Rs. 3x respectively.
| Then, | 2x + 4000 | = | 40 |
| 3x + 4000 | 57 |
57(2x + 4000) = 40(3x + 4000)
6x = 68,000
3x = 34,000
Sumit's present salary = (3x + 4000) = Rs.(34000 + 4000) = Rs. 38,000.

Let the salaries of ravi&sumith 2x,3x
each salary increased by 4000.
i.e ((2x+4000)/(3x+4000))->1
new ratio is 40:57->2
from 1 &2 we get
6x=68000
3x=34000
salary of sumith = 34000+4000=38000
each salary increased by 4000.
i.e ((2x+4000)/(3x+4000))->1
new ratio is 40:57->2
from 1 &2 we get
6x=68000
3x=34000
salary of sumith = 34000+4000=38000

Just they have splitted the term
6x=68000
we can also write it as
2*3x=68000
3x=68000/2
therefore,
3x=34000
for the simplication they have done this
6x=68000
we can also write it as
2*3x=68000
3x=68000/2
therefore,
3x=34000
for the simplication they have done this

4000 should not be added because the question is if it increases, not increased. So, answer is 34000.

The shortcut formulae for these kinds of sums = (difference of new ratio/cross difference of both ratios )*increased value * require value.
= (57-40/120-114) * 4000 * 3.
= 17/6 * 12000.
=34000 =34000 + 4000(given in the question).
= (57-40/120-114) * 4000 * 3.
= 17/6 * 12000.
=34000 =34000 + 4000(given in the question).

Please tell me. How 114x -120x = 228000 - 160000 becomes 6x = 68000 instead of -6x = 68000?
I think, it should be 114x - 120x = -6x.
I think, it should be 114x - 120x = -6x.
