Salaries of Ravi and Sumit are in the ratio 2 : 3. If the salary of each is increased by Rs. 4000, the new ratio becomes 40 : 57. What is Sumit's salary?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the original salaries of Ravi and Sumit be Rs. 2x and Rs. 3x respectively.
| Then, | 2x + 4000 | = | 40 |
| 3x + 4000 | 57 |
57(2x + 4000) = 40(3x + 4000)
6x = 68,000
3x = 34,000
Sumit's present salary = (3x + 4000) = Rs.(34000 + 4000) = Rs. 38,000.

40 :57
4000
2:3
(3-2)*4000/ (40*3)-(57*2)
= 4000/120-114
= 4000/6.
And Sumit new salary,
= 57x4000/6.
= 19x2000.
= 38000.
4000
2:3
(3-2)*4000/ (40*3)-(57*2)
= 4000/120-114
= 4000/6.
And Sumit new salary,
= 57x4000/6.
= 19x2000.
= 38000.

Yes, it has another method.
2:3
40:57 -> difference = 17.
Cross multiply it,
(17/6)*4000*3=34000.
Total=34000+4000=38000.
114:120 ->difference = 6.
2:3
40:57 -> difference = 17.
Cross multiply it,
(17/6)*4000*3=34000.
Total=34000+4000=38000.
114:120 ->difference = 6.

It is stated in question 'if' the salary is increased but it is not actually increased now at present how at the last point you have added 3x+4000?
Anyone, explain please.

Let original salary ravi and sumit be 2x and 3x.
If salary is increased by 4000.
So we can write 2x+4000 --- 1.
3x+4000 --- 2.
2x+4000/3x+4000 = 40/57.
Then 57(2x+4000) = 40(3x+4000).
57*2x+57*4000 = 40*3x + 40*4000.
114x - 120x = 228000 - 160000.
6x = 68000.
3x = 34000.
Sumits salary = 34000 + 4000 = 38000.
If salary is increased by 4000.
So we can write 2x+4000 --- 1.
3x+4000 --- 2.
2x+4000/3x+4000 = 40/57.
Then 57(2x+4000) = 40(3x+4000).
57*2x+57*4000 = 40*3x + 40*4000.
114x - 120x = 228000 - 160000.
6x = 68000.
3x = 34000.
Sumits salary = 34000 + 4000 = 38000.

The question is not what is sumit's new salary?
It is what is sumit's salary?
So, they didn't mention whether it is past or present.
So the answer could be 34000 or 38000.
Am I correct?
If not explain to me.
