I agree @Ramya.
80 sec for A to cover 300m since A beats B by 6 sec. 6 sec should add to 80 sec. Therefore 86 sec should be the answer.

a beats b by 22.5 m. 6 seconds
So A covered 300m before B
So, 300/22.5 = 13.333.
Now 13.333 * 6 = 80.
So A covered 300m before B
So, 300/22.5 = 13.333.
Now 13.333 * 6 = 80.

A has already completed the race when B was 22.5 m behind. Moreover B has taken 6 s more than A to complete the race. So at the time A completes the race, B takes an addition of 6 secs to cover up the distance of 22.5 m by which he was behind. So he travels 22.5 m in the additional 6 sec which is nothing but 45/2 m.

22.5 - 6 sec.
225 - 60 sec.
Then, 300 - 225 = 75
75/6 = 12.5 sec
60 + 12.5= 72.5 sec.
225 - 60 sec.
Then, 300 - 225 = 75
75/6 = 12.5 sec
60 + 12.5= 72.5 sec.

22.5m = 6s.
1m = 6s÷22.5m = 60÷225 = 2÷45.
300m = (2÷45)x300 = 80s.
1m = 6s÷22.5m = 60÷225 = 2÷45.
300m = (2÷45)x300 = 80s.

Using chain rule:
22.5 ---- 6
300 ---- ?
300/22.5*6 = 80.
If we want A 80-6 = 72.
22.5 ---- 6
300 ---- ?
300/22.5*6 = 80.
If we want A 80-6 = 72.

First of all, everyone having doubt of why 45/2 m/s speed is added to B why not A?
Answer is after race completion B takes that additional 6 sec to complete the race from given data we can find B speed and time
22.5 mts - 6 sec then 300 mts - 80sec it will take to complete 300 mts race here ' -' symbol is equal to.
