Alfred buys an old scooter for Rs. 4700 and spends Rs. 800 on its repairs. If he sells the scooter for Rs. 5800, his gain percent is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Cost Price (C.P.) = Rs. (4700 + 800) = Rs. 5500.
Selling Price (S.P.) = Rs. 5800.
Gain = (S.P.) - (C.P.) = Rs.(5800 - 5500) = Rs. 300.
Gain % = | ![]() |
300 | x 100 | ![]() |
= 5 | 5 | % |
5500 | 11 |

Cost price = 4700
For repairs = 800
Total cost price = 4700+ 800 = 5500
Selling price = 5800
Profit = selling price - cost price.
= 5800-5500.
=300.
Profit % = (profit/cost price)* 100,
= (300/5500)*100,
= (300/55).
= 60/11,
= 5 5/11 %.
For repairs = 800
Total cost price = 4700+ 800 = 5500
Selling price = 5800
Profit = selling price - cost price.
= 5800-5500.
=300.
Profit % = (profit/cost price)* 100,
= (300/5500)*100,
= (300/55).
= 60/11,
= 5 5/11 %.

Profit= SP/CP
= 5800/(4700+800)
= 1.0545( it's profit because
Value of SP/CP = more.
than 1, and how
much more than 1= 0.054 more than 1)
So profit % will be 0.054×100= 5.45% or 5(5/11).
Always use SP/CP for profit loss, If the value is less than 1, then find how much less than 1, it will be a loss.

See we got 60/11 in above solutions.
Now if you are dividing 60 by 11 you will get 5 has a quotient and 5 has a remainder.
Therefore 5 5/11.
Or you can see that in 60/11,11 is the divisor and there is only one 11 has a divisor in the answer which is option B). You get the answer simply.

I did not understand how you solve the final answer if I solve 300/5500*100 then I did not get 5*5/11 I only get 20/3, if I solve with another method then I get the correct answer so please show proper calculations so I can easily understand whole cutting process at the end of answer.

Hi, guys this is the best tricks to solve this question lets start.
Old scooter price =4700
Spend on repair =800
The Total cost of scooter is=5500.
He sells the scooter on rupees 5800.
Now gain = s.p-c.p
5800-5500=300..
Gain=300.
Gain%=gain * 100\c.p
Gain%=300*100\5500=5.454.

Please, would you please help me?
Above from I saw all methods of solution, but from above mentions besides any others method are available to solved this example?
If you have any simpler method, please?
I have much tried to solved examples. But I couldn't did this.

= 300/5500*100.
Cancel the last two zeros of 5500 and last two zeros of 100.
Now it will be like, 300/55.
While Dividing;
___5___.
55) 300.
-275.
-----------.
25.
So arrange it:
25 (remainder) ___ 5 (quotient) ___ 55.
5*5=25.
5*11=55.
So the answer will be 5.

Most of doubt relating to how to get 5(5/11).
It' easy. It's a mixed fraction. After dividing 300*100/5500. WE GET 60/11. CALCULATE 60/11 by long division method we get quotent 5 and remainder 5 and divisor 11. Here is the way :- Quotient 5(Remainder 5/Divisor 11).

How did 5.5/11 come?
ANS: Gain% = (300 x 100)/5500
= 30000/5500
= 300/55
= 60/11
NOW dont calculate ans in decimal instead get ans. in the form of quotient remainder and divisor
Here QUOTIENT=5
REMAINDER=5
DIVISOR=11
SO V GET 5(5/11)
ANS: Gain% = (300 x 100)/5500
= 30000/5500

20% of 480 i.e cost price is 96.
total cp = 480+96 = 576
to make a profit of 144 the selling price should be
576+144 = 720
if purchase price u meant is the COST PRICE..its hard to say
how would u make profit if u increase your costs investment
