15.
A train 110 metres long is running with a speed of 60 kmph. In what time will it pass a man who is running at 6 kmph in the direction opposite to that in which the train is going?
5 sec
6 sec
7 sec
10 sec
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Speed of train relative to man = (60 + 6) km/hr = 66 km/hr.

   = 66 x 5 m/sec
18

   = 55 m/sec.
3

Time taken to pass the man = 110 x 3 sec = 6 sec.
55

Distance =speed *time.
110m=60+6km/h*time,
110=66*5/18*time,
110=66*.27*time,
110=17.8 or 18 *time,
Time=110/18=6 s.

@Melvin Michael.

It's true that if we consider the distance taken by a man in running towards the train , the answer becomes 6.6.

But the man is running in the opposite direction so sign of that distance becomes negative and hence,
Ans becomes 5.5.

Hi, I don't know how it is calculated.

(66*5/18) = 55/3.

Hi, I am confused with the solution provided here:

Let the time taken be - X.
Relative speed = 66 KMPH = 55/3 meters/sec.
Distance = 110 + (5/3)X, (5/3)X being the distance covered by man.
Distance = Speed * Time.
(5/3)X +110 = (55/3) * X.

On resolving this, X comes to 6.6 seconds.

Please correct me when I am wrong.

@Praba.

Your answer is wrong. How will you said diff is applicable. Because speed opposite direction. So additive is applicable.

@All.

The man is running right so so we need to find the distance travelled by him then only we can add with a distance of the train.

@Arun.

110/x = 55/3.
X = 110 * 3/55.

Guys, we have to subtract the distance of the man i.e distance from 110.
