Discussion Forum : Problems on Ages - General Questions (Q.No. 1)
1.
Father is aged three times more than his son Ronit. After 8 years, he would be two and a half times of Ronit's age. After further 8 years, how many times would he be of Ronit's age?
2 times
1 times
2
3 times
4
3 times
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let Ronit's present age be x years. Then, father's present age =(x + 3x) years = 4x years.

(4x + 8) = 5 (x + 8)
2

8x + 16 = 5x + 40

3x = 24

x = 8.

Hence, required ratio = (4x + 16) = 48 = 2.
(x + 16) 24

Guess whatz the wrong here:
1st father age is 24 and Rohit age is 8...
atter 8 years: father age is shd b 24+8=32 and Rohit age is 8+8=16...
But in sum itz given after 8 years his age is 2.5 times>then Rohit age... But here 32 nd 16 two times only greater... Why?

The correct answer is 11:5.

Fathers present age :72
Son's present age :24
So ratio:- 3:1

After 8 years:
father's age: 80
son's age: 32
so ratio:- 5:2

Further 8 years after:
Father's age : 88
Son's age: 40
So ratio : 11:5 is the correct answer.

Hey guys I had a simple logic for you.
Father=three times more of his son.

After 8 years father is 2 and a half of his son it means there is a reduce of 1/2.
So for another 8 years there will be a constant reduction of another half i.e; 2 times of his son.

Father age is 3 times in starting.
After 8 year father age will be 2 and half times of son.

Means after 8 year father age decrease 1/2 times.
i.e. 3-(1/2)=2(1/2)

So, after 16 year father age will be= 2(1/2)-(1/2) = 2 times of son.

A) 2 and a half times old= 2 1/2 = (2*2+1)/2 = 5/2.

B) Initially father is 3 times son's age.
After 8 years father is 2 1/2 times the son's age.
Again after 8 years father is? Times sons age?

Therefore, 0+8+8= 16.

Hence the equation 4x + 16/ x+ 16.

Suppose age of Rohit is x so, age of father is 3x.

Now, (3x+8)/(x+8) = 2.5/1.

We get x = 24.

So age of father = 3*24 = 72.

So that after 8 the ratio became 2.5:1.

Further after 8 years. The ratio is 88/40 = 2.2.

But I don't get the answer 2.

As someone has doubts on 5/2.

As it is mentioned in the question, the father would be (two and a half time's) Ronit's age.
So, it is in the form of a mixed fraction.
We write one and a half is 1/2
So 2 and a half is = 2 1/2,
So, 2*2+1/2,
= 5/2.

@All.

Here, If x = 8 then 3 times more is 24 which is the father's age and after 8 more years x = 16 and the father's age will be 32 which is not 2 and a half times 16..
So, 3x is correct and x + 3x is wrong.
So, the correct answer will be 2.5.

Let the age of the son be "x"
father is aged 3 times more than his son so x+3x=4x }(i agree this part)

after 8 years,
4x+8=x+8....equation (1)( doubt here q1: how X=4X that is how father age is equal to son age )

Let son age = x.
Father age = y.

X + 3x = y( acc to 1st statemnt) ---> eq1
5/2(X+8) = y+8.
5x+40 = 2y+16.
5x-2y=-24 ---> eq2.

Solve eq 1 and 2 we get;
X=8 then y = 24,
After 16 years,
Son age 24 & father age 48.
Therefore 2 times.
