Discussion Forum : Problems on Ages - General Questions (Q.No. 1)
1.
Father is aged three times more than his son Ronit. After 8 years, he would be two and a half times of Ronit's age. After further 8 years, how many times would he be of Ronit's age?
2 times
1 times
2
3 times
4
3 times
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let Ronit's present age be x years. Then, father's present age =(x + 3x) years = 4x years.

(4x + 8) = 5 (x + 8)
2

8x + 16 = 5x + 40

3x = 24

x = 8.

Hence, required ratio = (4x + 16) = 48 = 2.
(x + 16) 24

Father is aged three times more than his son Ronit = four times of son's age. Is it justified?

Three times more = four times.
HOW can we say this?

Three times more means it could be 3x+1, or 3x+2,.....or five times....it could be anything..

So how can we say three times more = four times.

Hi @Seema.

Here BODMAS rules are applied, where we solved first brackets (4x+16).

Put x = 4 then (4*8+16) = 48.

Then next brackets (x+16). Put again x = 8 then (8+16) = 24.

Now please see the sign between both the brackets that is divide sign, so please now divide 48/28 = 2.

Thank You.

Son present age is =x
than father's present age is=more than 3 times of son age
=x+3x
According to the question,
after 8 years..
x+8=x+3x+8
x+8=4x+8
and father will be 5/2 greater than son
5/2(x+8)=4x+8
5x+40=8x+16
3x=24
x=8
ratio after 8 years
4x+8+8/x+8+8=6/3=2

Rohit age is x and his father age is 3x ofter 8 years rohit age is 5/2(x+8) and his father age is 3x+8 therefore

3x+8=5/2(x+8)
6x+16=5x+40
x=24

Rohit age is 24 then his father age is 72 year ofter 8 years

It becomes 32 and 80 it is exactly 2 1/2 times of rohit age so answer is 2 times.

How the ratio is 3:1?

It is 4:1 since in question it is clearly mentioned that "3 TIMES MORE THAN RONIT ".

Then only you'll get answer, never forget this if in question it says 3 times than another ratio will be 3:1, if it says 3 times more than or larger than other you should take 4:1.

if Father is aged three times more than his son Ronit means, 3x + x = 4x then After 8 years, he would be two and a half times of Ronit's age.

In that above 'he' represent Ronit's father which means
(3x + 8) = 5/2(x + 8) right?

Then, how it will be (4x + 8) = 5/2(x + 8)?

(4x+8)=5/2(x+8) please can u explain me how this step came...
means,
father age was 4x sun age was x
next after 8 years,
father age was 4x+8 sun age was x+8

Now he would be 2 and half times more than his son right then,
Here i didn't get...

All are wrong answer.

Current answer is 2 1/5 time.

That is father first age is 72 answer his son age is 24 (3:1).

After 8 years father age is 80 and son age is 32 (1: 2. 5).

After 8 years father age is 88 and son age will be 40 (1: 1. 2).

So all option are incorrect.

@ Harsh

See Rohit present age comes out to be 8.

His father age is 32.

Now add 8 to both of these. Will be 16 and 40 respectively. Later is 2.5 times the former, adding 8, they will be 24 and 48 with latter is 2 times the former which is the answer. Hope it worked

@All.

This question is a tricky one, as it states Father's age is three times more than Ronit's age. The "times" would imply F=3R but it also has a "more" statement. Meaning that Father's age is what adds to 3 times Ronit's age to Ronit's age, which means.

F = 3R+R.
