1.
Father is aged three times more than his son Ronit. After 8 years, he would be two and a half times of Ronit's age. After further 8 years, how many times would he be of Ronit's age?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let Ronit's present age be x years. Then, father's present age =(x + 3x) years = 4x years.
![]() |
(4x + 8) = | 5 | (x + 8) |
| 2 |
8x + 16 = 5x + 40
3x = 24
x = 8.
| Hence, required ratio = | (4x + 16) | = | 48 | = 2. |
| (x + 16) | 24 |

Its 3x+x because "Father's age is 3 times (3x) more than (+) his son's age (x)". Here son's age is "x" so just add "x" age to 3times (3x).

(4x+16)/(x+16)=(4(8)+16)/(8+16)) = 48/24 = 2years
We must submit the 'x' value in 'x' place.
X = 8
So, put 8 in x value.
Then you will get the answer.

The right answer is 3.
At first it is;
1 : 4.
then;
2 : 5.
Here difference after 8 years is 1.
1 part = 8 years.
Again we increase 8 years;
3 : 6.

@Neeraj you are wrong.
If it is 3x time of the child age then it is 3x.
But it is mentioned 3x times more than the sons age then it is 4x.
(3x+x).

I have seen many solutions above but can't figure out that how they took 8 + 8 in the further 8-year equation.
Can anyone help me by explaining it?

It is 3 times of fathers age.
i.e 3son not 3+son coz it is given 3 times more not 3 years. So observe the question and final answer would 3 not 2.

Father is aged three times more than his son Ronit
if Ronit's age = x then Father's age = 3x
But Explanation Father's age = 4x
How is it possible?

As father age and his son age ratio decrease by one and half in 8 year.
In another 8 year in will decrease one and half from two and half times.

We can say that father age = y(ronits age).
So (4x+16)= y(x+16).
i.e (4x+16)/(x+16) = y.
Here we know x value.
So we can calculate y value.
So (4x+16)= y(x+16).
i.e (4x+16)/(x+16) = y.
Here we know x value.
So we can calculate y value.

(4x+8)=5/2(x+8) => 8x+16 = 5x+40
bcoz :
cross multiply : 2(4x+8) = 8x+16
straight multiply: 5(x+8) = 5x+40
Everyone clear.........
