Discussion Forum : Problems on Ages - General Questions (Q.No. 1)
1.
Father is aged three times more than his son Ronit. After 8 years, he would be two and a half times of Ronit's age. After further 8 years, how many times would he be of Ronit's age?
2 times
1 times
2
3 times
4
3 times
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let Ronit's present age be x years. Then, father's present age =(x + 3x) years = 4x years.

(4x + 8) = 5 (x + 8)
2

8x + 16 = 5x + 40

3x = 24

x = 8.

Hence, required ratio = (4x + 16) = 48 = 2.
(x + 16) 24

Given:

Father age = more than 3 times son age.
After 8years = more than 2 1/2 time son age.
After 8 years = more than 2-time son age.

Every 8 years 1/2 times reduced.

Father aged 3 times more than his son Ronit", everyone would think Father's age is triple of Son's age, right?

How to assume this? Anyone, please explain me clearly.

Father's age should be 3x and not 4x as some people are saying. It says Father is aged three times more than his son Ronit.

So, it should be x and 3x and not x+3x.

Please explain.

Father is aged three times more than his son Ronit.

Then why father age = x, and Ronit age is = x?

Why not father age = x? And son Ronit age = y.

If the age of father is 5 times more then his son. If the sum of the ages is 72 find the age of father and mother?

Ans:- 13=son, father=59. How is that possibly?

Son age = x.

Father age = 3x+x.

4x+8 = 2.5 (x+8).
4x+8 = 5/2 (x+8).

2(4x+8) = 5(x+8).
8x+16 = 5x+40.

8x-5x = 40-16.
3x = 24.

x = 8.

Now follow the rest.

First, we think Rohit age is x, equation given for after 8 years. And at the end the question is further 8 years it means x+8+8=x+16 same way for father also.

Hello guys my problem is this why 5/2 is multiplied with (x+8) not with (4x+8). When question is saying father's age would be two and half time of ronit age.

Say Sons age is X;

F = 3X
3X + 8 = 5/2(X+8).
6X + 16 = 5X+40.
X = 40 - 16,
X = 24.

So, 3X+16/X+16.
= 3 * 24+16/24+16.
= 88/40.
= 2.2.
Means -> 2 1/5.

Its 3x+x because "Father's age is 3 times (3x) more than (+) his son's age (x)". Here son's age is "x" so just add "x" age to 3times (3x).
