A man is 24 years older than his son. In two years, his age will be twice the age of his son. The present age of his son is:
14 years
18 years
20 years
22 years
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the son's present age be x years. Then, man's present age = (x + 24) years.

(x + 24) + 2 = 2(x + 2)

x + 26 = 2x + 4

x = 22.

@Deepak your method of doing is correct but you made 2nd equation wrong. it is after 2 years which means you should add 2 on both ages "x" and "y" and then make it twice as .

x+2= 2(y+2) solve it and you will get your answer.

Let son's age = x,
Father is 24 years elder than the son, hence son's age = 24 + x,
In the question given that, after 2 years father age will be twice the age of the son.
So, (x + 24) + 2 = 2(x + 2) solve this.
The answer is 22.

let M be the present age of man and S be the present age of son
now,
Man is 24 years older than his son....
M=24+S --(eq1)
After two years he will be twice his sons age...
M=2+2S --(eq2)

Solving simultaneously we get S=22.

Son's age = x,then father's age =x+24.
After 2 years the age of son is x+2.
Given that father's age is twice as the age of son's age,
Then father's age will be 2(x+2),
2(x+2)=x+24,
2x-x=24-2,
X = 22(present age of son).

In question it is clearly said that man's age will be twice the age of his son. So we have added 2 on both sides i.e. X+24+2 and X+2, where we have multipied by 2 on son's age to make equation equal. Have you clear friends ?

Father is 24 yrs older than son
after 2 yrs father will be twice so we write father2 and son 1
so difern b/w 2 and 1 is of =1
so the value of 1 is 24.
24 * 2 =48,
24 * 1=24,
48-2 yrs = 46.
24-2=22 answer.

@vaishali.

The question its self saying that "In two years, his age will be twice the age of his son. " so we are adding "+2" on both sides means on fathers age and sons age. Ok I hope you understand.

Here we assumed as the sons's present age as x. And through the problem we are finding the value of 'x'.that means present age.so no need to subtract that 2 years from 22. The son's present age is 22.

It can be also solved by this? please reply me !

Let the son age be x.
After 2 years he will be twice of his son age..
Then..
2x+2=24.

x=11 then x= 11 the son's age and his father age 2x=2*11 = 22.

Hi sri kanth..

2(X+2)?
Ans:

In 2 years , father age will be twice the age of son , so (X+24)+2(father'age+In(after) 2 years) = 2(X+2)(son's present age+ In 2 years) as twice so that's y 2(X+2).
