7 is the number of months B was in business, remember B joined after 5 months. 12 - 5 =7 months

A's share in 12 months=3500*12
B's share in 7 months=7x

If A starts with 3000, after 6 months B joined with A with 5000, after 1 yr. total profit is 8000. then how much can get A&B ?

Soumya said:   1 decade ago
A : B.

3500 : X.....INVESTMENT.

12 : 7.....MONTHS INVESTED.

2 : 3.....PROFITS SHARED.

So the ratio of investment should be equal to the profits shared.

3500*12 : 7*x :: 2:3.

x = 9000.

If "B" is invested equal contribution of "A" in this session this type question will not be raised. Then it will arise question as on profit as like how much profit get the A&B ?
