A starts business with Rs. 3500 and after 5 months, B joins with A as his partner. After a year, the profit is divided in the ratio 2 : 3. What is B's contribution in the capital?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let B's capital be Rs. x.
Then, | ![]() |
3500 x 12 | = | 2 | ![]() |
7x | 3 |
14x = 126000
x = 9000.

Partnership formula
Partnership formula
Ratio of investment * time = Ratios of profit
3500 * 12 : x (unknown) * 7 = 2 k : 3 k.
I have used t as it's a substituted ratio
42000 : 7 x = 2k : 3k.
To find the value of k;
42000 = 2 k.
k = 42000/2 = 21000.
To find the value of x
7x = 3k,
7x = 3 * 21000
x = (3*21000)/7.
x = 9000.
Partnership formula
Ratio of investment * time = Ratios of profit
3500 * 12 : x (unknown) * 7 = 2 k : 3 k.

x = (3*21000)/7.
x = 9000.

Note: According to the question we can say that A invested for 12months and B invested after 5 months it means 12months-5= B invested for 7 months.
Then time ratios of A:B = 12:7
Investment = profit/ tim -> to find Investment.
Profit ratios 2 : 3.
Times ratios 12:7.
2/12 : 3/7 do cross multiplication.
ie. 2x7: 12x3.
14: 36 = 7 : 18.
Here
7Parts == 3500.
1p = 500 then.
18p = 18 x 500 = 9000.
Then time ratios of A:B = 12:7
Investment = profit/ tim -> to find Investment.
Profit ratios 2 : 3.
Times ratios 12:7.
2/12 : 3/7 do cross multiplication.
ie. 2x7: 12x3.
14: 36 = 7 : 18.
Here
7Parts == 3500.
1p = 500 then.
18p = 18 x 500 = 9000.

Profit ratio of A and B
2 : 3
Time Ratio. 12: 7
Investment = profit/time
2/12 : 3/7 = 1/6 : 3/7
= 7 : 18 Here LCM is taken as 42,
7p ->3500,
so 1p->500.
So B capital 18p ->9000
2 : 3
Time Ratio. 12: 7
Investment = profit/time
2/12 : 3/7 = 1/6 : 3/7
= 7 : 18 Here LCM is taken as 42,
7p ->3500,
so 1p->500.
So B capital 18p ->9000

First of the After a year write a question is 12 is month wise.
3500*12/7x = 2/3.
By cross multiplying, we get;
3500*12=4200 multiple by 3 (42000*3)= 126000.
7 multiple by 2 (7*2) =14.
Then 126000/14 = 9000 is the answer Answer.
3500*12/7x = 2/3.
By cross multiplying, we get;
3500*12=4200 multiple by 3 (42000*3)= 126000.
7 multiple by 2 (7*2) =14.
Then 126000/14 = 9000 is the answer Answer.

Following is Correct explanation:-
A's investment was Rs. 3500 for one-time. It was NEVER recurring for 12 months, i.e., Rs. 3500*12 months is wrong.
It is assumed that B's investment was Rs. x for one-time. It was never recurring for 7 months, i.e., Rs. x*7 months is wrong.
Ratio of profit is given for 1 year.
Therefore, we need to express investments in terms of years, not in terms of months, so that investment ratio has equitable.
Now,
A's share for 12 months (1 year) = Rs. 3500*12/12 = Rs. 3500.
B's share for 7 months (7/12 year) = Rs. x*7/12.
Ratio of Investment should be equal to ratio of profits.
=> 3500:X*7/12 = 2:3.
=> 3500*12/7X = 2/3.
=> 3500*12*3/(7*2) = x.
=> x = Rs. 9000 = B's contribution in the capital.
Thanks.

Let; B's capital is x.
According to question,
3500 * 12: 7 * x = 2 : 3.
So, X = 900.
According to question,
3500 * 12: 7 * x = 2 : 3.
So, X = 900.

But B joined A after 5 months, which means that A had completed his 10 months of investment.
Thus the equation should be like:
(3500*10/x*5) = 2:3.
Right?
Thus the equation should be like:
(3500*10/x*5) = 2:3.
Right?

A starts a buisness after 5 months for 3500 rupees.
B joins with A.
A has start after 5 months and remaining months is' 7' why because 1 year =12 months. Let we take 7 is for B.
Then (3500*12/7) =2/3. For 2/3 is given for ratio.
14x=126000.
=>12600/14.
X=9000.
