The average age of husband, wife and their child 3 years ago was 27 years and that of wife and the child 5 years ago was 20 years. The present age of the husband is:

Explanation:
Sum of the present ages of husband, wife and child = (27 x 3 + 3 x 3) years = 90 years.
Sum of the present ages of wife and child = (20 x 2 + 5 x 2) years = 50 years.
Husband's present age = (90 - 50) years = 40 years.

The average age of three persons is 18. If two of them are included then the average age becomes 20. If the age of 1st is 17 then find the age of the remaining persons.

5 years age child and wife Avg age was 20, so 3 years ago it was 22.
There we find (27 * 3) - (22 + 22) = 37; 37 is the husbands age 3 years ago,
So present year age => 37 + 3 = 40.

(x+y+z)/3=30 ---> eq1.
Five years ago
(y+z)/2=25
y+z=50 ---> eq.2.
Put the values of y+z in thr first equation we get:-
(x+50)/3=30,
x=90-50,
x=40.
(x+y+z)/3=30 ---> eq1.

(y+z)/2=25
y+z=50 ---> eq.2.
Put the values of y+z in thr first equation we get:-

When the solution is started like this
husband=x,wife=y&child=z
bf4 3yrs x-3+y-3+z-3/3 =27
terefore x+y+z=90--1
bf4 5yrs y-5+z-5/2 =20
terefore y+z=50---2 (1-2)
terefore x=40

Please clarify my doubt. If my age is 10 before 3 years then at present my age should be 13. So it is (10+3) not (10-3) right. But why we subtracted 3 in above question?

Fathers age is the sum of mother and his son age but the today's average age of three of them are 20 so what will be the today's age of father? Can anyone solve this?

27*3 here 27 is average age and 3 is the number (sum is avg*n )
and 3*3 here we are taking after 3 years and into(*) 3 munbers.
