The average age of husband, wife and their child 3 years ago was 27 years and that of wife and the child 5 years ago was 20 years. The present age of the husband is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Sum of the present ages of husband, wife and child = (27 x 3 + 3 x 3) years = 90 years.
Sum of the present ages of wife and child = (20 x 2 + 5 x 2) years = 50 years.
Husband's present age = (90 - 50) years = 40 years.

Just find their present ages.
h + w + c /3 = 27.
h + w + c = 27 × 3 = 81.
(But this total sum was 3 years ago, to find today's total sum, add 3 years of husband, wife and child in 81, 3 + 3 + 3 =9).
h + w + c =81 + 9 = 90 -----> A.
In the same way,
w + c /2 = 20
w+c = 40 ( but it was 5 years ago, so add 5 to both wife and child total of 10).
w + c = 40 + 10 =50 ------> B
We got our A and B equations; if we combine them, we will find our answer.
h + 50= 90 ( we have put equation B in A),
h = 90 - 50,
h = 40,
So, the husband's age is 40.
h + w + c /3 = 27.
h + w + c = 27 × 3 = 81.
(But this total sum was 3 years ago, to find today's total sum, add 3 years of husband, wife and child in 81, 3 + 3 + 3 =9).
h + w + c =81 + 9 = 90 -----> A.
In the same way,
w + c /2 = 20
w+c = 40 ( but it was 5 years ago, so add 5 to both wife and child total of 10).
w + c = 40 + 10 =50 ------> B
We got our A and B equations; if we combine them, we will find our answer.
h + 50= 90 ( we have put equation B in A),
h = 90 - 50,
h = 40,
So, the husband's age is 40.

This is ramya from vizag,can i solve the problem as below as per question,
present ages of hus=h;wife=w;child=c;
---> 3 years ago it was said the avg ages of the hus,wife,child was 27 years.so,
((h-3)+(w-3)+(c-3))/3=27;
so solving it i got h+w+c=90;--->(a)
and given 5 years ago wife and childs age avg=20years so,
i took((w-5)+(c-5))/2=20;solving it i got w+c=50;-->(B)
on solving (a)&(b) i got h age as 40years,can this procedure be correct??
please do reply me?

20+5 =25 today's average of w+child.
H+w+child is 27 +3 = 30 todays all average.
Difference is 5, So 5*2+ new avg30 = 40.
H+w+child is 27 +3 = 30 todays all average.
Difference is 5, So 5*2+ new avg30 = 40.

H+W+C=81 is sum three year ago and W+C=40 five year ago. So five year ago it is wife and child sum is 40. Each year a 1 age will be added for a person. So W+C=44 after two years. (now W+C=44 is three year ago) so H+44 = 81.
H = 37 three year ago. So at present his age is 37+3 = 40 = H.
H = 37 three year ago. So at present his age is 37+3 = 40 = H.

Present age of h+w+c = (27+3)*3 = 90.
Present age of w+c = (20+5)*2 = 50.
h's age = 90-50 = 40.
Present age of w+c = (20+5)*2 = 50.
h's age = 90-50 = 40.

1. Av age of H+W+C=27.
Three years back their total age, we multiply 27 by 3 = 81 years.
Three years later age increased for three members = 3*3 = 9.
2. Current age of H+W+C = 90.
3. Av age of W+C = 20.
Five years back their total age, we multiply 20 by 2 = 40.
Five years later age increased for two members = 5*2 = 10.
4. Current age of W+C = 50.
5. Husband age = Current age of H+W+C-W+C = 90-50 = 40 years.
Three years back their total age, we multiply 27 by 3 = 81 years.
Three years later age increased for three members = 3*3 = 9.

Average = sum/no of count.
27 = h + w + c/3.
h + w + c = 81.
20 = w + c - 1/2.
w + c = 41.
h + 41 = 81.
H = 40.
27 = h + w + c/3.
h + w + c = 81.
20 = w + c - 1/2.
w + c = 41.
h + 41 = 81.
H = 40.
