What is the least number of squares tiles required to pave the floor of a room 15 m 17 cm long and 9 m 2 cm broad?
814
820
840
844
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Length of largest tile = H.C.F. of 1517 cm and 902 cm = 41 cm.

Area of each tile = (41 x 41) cm2.

Required number of tiles = 1517 x 902 = 814.
41 x 41

HCF is taken because we want the least no.of tiles in this question. If we want least no of tiles then we have to maximise the dimensions of tiles.

So HCF (Higher Common Factor) is used to maximise the dimensions of tiles.

I am not getting the solution properly. Please, could anyone explain me?

Hcf is calculated because for least tiles we need area of the square be maximum.

Hi friends,

We can also use the dimensions (9.02*9.02) + (6.15*6.15) +2(2.87*2.87) +7(0.41*0.41) and totally 11 square tiles of different lengths.
