What is the least number of squares tiles required to pave the floor of a room 15 m 17 cm long and 9 m 2 cm broad?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Length of largest tile = H.C.F. of 1517 cm and 902 cm = 41 cm.

For same type of Questions, we can also use different formula:
Number of Squares inside Rectangle:
= Square of (LCM of Length and Width of Rectangle)/(Area of Rectangle).
= (33374*33374)/(1517*902) = 814.

I couldn't understand why HCF is taken?

Friends HCF have taken because we need square tiles, so we need to divide length and breadth of floor in equal parts, that's why we are taking HCF.

Hey where did we get 1517 and 902 from?

We are converting metres to centimetres.

The least number is asked that means a single tile with the maximum dimension.
For this try LCM , you will get the maximum number of tiles with minimum dimensions whereas, in HCF, you will get the largest dimension possible. So that only HCF is used to find the answer.
