What is the least number of squares tiles required to pave the floor of a room 15 m 17 cm long and 9 m 2 cm broad?
814
820
840
844
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Length of largest tile = H.C.F. of 1517 cm and 902 cm = 41 cm.

Area of each tile = (41 x 41) cm2.

Required number of tiles = 1517 x 902 = 814.
41 x 41

Here 41 * 37=1517 and 41 * 22=902.

So, 41 comes in both the no. (which is called hcf).
Now the area of the floor is 1512 * 902.
So least no. of tiles to cover the floor = n * 41^2 (as square tile can be taken of length 41).
Therefore n =37*22 =814.

@All.

If we want to get the least number of tiles, the largest tiles must be used. This is why hcf is used. If you want to get the most number of tiles, then, the smallest tiles will be used, which is lcm.
