Two cars start from the opposite places of a main road, 150 km apart. First car runs for 25 km and takes a right turn and then runs 15 km. It then turns left and then runs for another 25 km and then takes the direction back to reach the main road. In the mean time, due to minor break down the other car has run only 35 km along the main road. What would be the distance between two cars at this point?
65 km
75 km
80 km

1st car has run 25, 15 and 25 km and then back again, but how many km he backed is not mentioned here, besides this, Why 15 km is not added with 50 as 1st car has run 25 km and took right turn and run 15 km and took left turn and run another 25 km?

Please, someone, make it clear.

As soon 1st car has started moving, it leaves the main road.After running 25 km+ 15 km+ 25 km it takes the direction to back to main road that means it has to travel 15 km to reach main road.

So distance b/w 1st and 2nd car should be,

= 150+15-(25+25+35).

= 165-85 = 80.

@Sravya.

15 km is an unnecessary data here. Do it as simply as possible.

At the starting point distance between them is 150 km. While the first car passed 5o km at the same time second car passed 35 km. Now, distance between them {150- (50+35) }= 65.

Hope you get it.

Thanks.

As per my calculation, the answer should is 115, because the 1st car has reached back to the place from where it started, so we have to find out the distance between the starting point of the 1st car and final point of the 2nd one.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Agree @Nitika.

The answer is 90 because as per question they took the same direction to reach the main road which means distance became equal means zero.
=> 15 + 25 - 15 + 25.. So be have to reduce 35 + 25 = 60 from total 150. So the answer is 90.

As my knowledge is concern answer should be 80. Because in question clearly mentioned that the first car has to take a turn towards to reach the main road. That means 15 km will be added to the total.

Now. [150- (25 + 25 + 35)] + 15 = 80.

15 KM is not counted because it's negligible.

In this case, the total distance from both vehicles is only calculated from the area that they have covered from being opposite of each other. i.e, By being on the "Main Road".

A to B is 25 and equally, A to C is 25, we take A->C (25) and from C-> D (25) so from A -> D, the total distance is 25+25=50 and E->F (35).

Finally, we subtract 50+35=85 from Total (150).

Now A travels total 50km. Because he travels extra 15 km to reach the main road. It is additional to reach the main road. He travels directly another 25 km.

So 15 km is not considered.

Total distance by IST car along the road =25+25=50,
Convered distance =150-50=100m,
Distance covered by 2nd car =35m,
Now distance between them =100-35=65m.

Thanks.
