Simply I understand this problem :

Total 80 before three years their ages.

80-3-3-3 = 71.

Ans is 71.

See there are 3 person so 3 we've to take then multiple 3 with that 3 person it'll come 9

So 80-3x3=71

Avg is 80 so total is 240 only.
Before 3 years total is 231.
So avg will be 231/3.

80-(3+3+3) = 80-9 = 71.

TOTAL AGES OF 3 NOS = 80.

THEIR AGES 3 YEARS AGO = 9.

So to get the right answer, all we do subtract 3 from each person to get 71?

Their present ages total=80.

3 years ago their total ages= 80- (3*3) =71.

Total age 80.

Simply subtract 3 from all the three =9.
=> 80-9=71.

A simple logic behind the problem is;

80 - 3 * 3.
=> 80 - 9 = 71.
