For this problem we can even solve in this way,

9+9=18-4=14,
8+8=16-4=12.....so why can't the answer be 12. Kindly explain

Yes @Meenakshi you are on right track.

See for the first pair we have 9.

So it can be 9+9 = 18-4 = 14.

So now instead of imagining a new no. Lets try out the given options in the same way.

15+15 = 30-4 = 26 so 26:15 the correct answer.

This is how the given explanation can also be interpreted.

And we can solve this also as.

14 = 7*2 and 7+2 = 9.

Similarly 26 = 13*2 therefore 13+2 = 15 i.e. answer.

I did add the first terms digits together then add 4.

1+4=5+4 = 9.
2+6=8+4 = 12.

14/2 = 7+2 = Nine.

26/2 = 13+2 = Fifteen. Answer is 15.

And we can solve this also as.

14 = 7 * 2 and 7 + 2 = 9.
Similarly 26 = 13 * 2 therefore 13+2 = 15 i.e. answer.
