Then what should be the answer?

According to me there is nothing wrong in this sentence, as 'if' is used to express uncertainty, and it is used here for the same.

If you really doubt that something is true (suspect that it's false), use "doubt that:" I doubt that Fred has really lost 25 pounds.

If you want to express uncertainty, use "whether" I doubt whether we will see the comet if the clouds don't clear soon. "Doubt if" can be substituted for "doubt whether", though it's considered somewhat more casual, but don't use it when you mean "doubt that".

If it is correct here because it is expressing some uncertainty.

That is correct because the person is in doubt and he is expressing not asking.

What's wrong with "if"? It seems correct in the indirect speech.

RULE- after the verb 'doubt' 'that' should not be used. 'if' or 'whether' should be used in its place.

Example:

I doubt that Ravi will come. Incorrect.
I doubt if Ravi will come. Correct.

It has redundancy in using extra word expressed. We have to use doubted instead.

Why need to use 'Expressed doubt'?

We can use 'doubted' is not it?
