Whoever is saying that "than" is not appropriate here just note this, "no sooner than" is the actual form and you can't ignore/modify it.

There is another mistake I suppose. "[B] clock strike six than" I feel is wrong because "than" doesn't look appropriate in that context. I feel that you have to use "after which" instead of "than" in that context.
