Can anyone tell me why did we use still prevails why not still prevailing?

Still child marriages are going on. Therefore its prevails.

Has been means now the action is in practice.

Still means same meaning.

So prevails or is prevailing is good to use here.

I think 'has banned ' is more accurate than has been banned.

'Still' indicates present action.

Here still is used in the sentence, which mean its continuing, it is in present tense, so using prevails or prevailing is appropriate.

Both the use of prevailing and prevails is correct.

@Vidyadhar you are not correct because you are using present tense along with past tense. It could be either prevails or is still prevailing.

I think is should be "the custom still is still prevailed among some groups in India.".

Hey! here sentence is beginning with "though" which shows that" yet" should be come with prevail, because though and yet comes together.
