"About" is okay but "so" is unnecessary. The word "thoroughly" already explained the depth of that verb.

Can any one tell me why the answer is A, but we must use 'was' as the sentence 'c' is in the past form?

Very through can be written. There is no word like so through. As per grammar, A is the correct answer.

Thoroughly itself describes the sentence as superlative and we need not place So infront of thoroughly

Because thoroughly is already an adverb, and so add something so to comparative degrees are not valid.

Problem means that should be about. Then why we need to put again a word 'about'. So that's answer. !

C is not correct because "discuss" is a transitive verb. Therefore it does not require a preposition.
