Problem here is not specific, I mean what kind of problem is it?

They didn't mention the specific problem, it seems like an examination problem but what types of problem, reading issue, studying the issue, or maybe some other issues. We don't know the specifics problem that why using the article "the" in the sentence is incorrect. We should use the article "a" instead of "the".

Hi the option is A is correct. Since revert back, discussing about etc are commonly called as "Indianism" in corporates ( as i am working in that). It like repeating twice time and commonly used in indian english.

As in the example "revert back the email", here revert the email simply does the meaning. However revert and back gives most similar meanings.

If you guys notice the options carefully you can see that the first three options constitutes one complete sentence. So the correct sentence would be "We discussed the problem so thoroughly on the eve of the examination that I found it very easy to work it out.".

Therefore "about" is totally not required whereas "so" is required which makes the first option incorrect.

The grammatical error in the sentence "We discussed the problem so thoroughly" is the use of "about. ".

Here's the correction:

Original: We discussed about problem so thoroughly.
Corrected: We discussed the problem so thoroughly.

In English, the verb "discuss" typically takes the direct object of the thing being discussed, not "about" followed by the object.

The word "discuss" is usually used when talking about a topic in general. The actual meaning of "discuss' is "talk about". The usage of the word about after Discuss is redundant or unnecessary. Hence "Discuss about" is incorrect. You can also use talk about in place of Discuss.

That's why Option A is correct.

We use "about" after "discussion" for example we had a long discussion about the problem.

But when we write"discuss", we don't use "about" after it.

For example: we discussed the problem.

Trick is : a discussion about something to discuss something.

Keeping 'so' in the sentence is correct. The Full sentence is "We discussed the problem so thoroughly on the eve of the examination that I found it very easy to work it out" This is regarding "SO THAT" usage. Hence, A is correct answer.
