Not sure why most of the people say it is "does".
I suppose it should be "did".

Because the action of the kid is after the completion of father's action or while processing it.

Generally, there are a lot of opinions to the reader but according to the rule, if principle clause is in the present tense, the sub-ordinate clause is also in the present tense. Here sentence denotes profession of the child.
