It's (A) by definition (saprophytic=referring to an organism which lives on dead or decaying substances), hence E.Coli is classified under Gram-ve Rods, specifically (lactose fermenting coliforms). So due to fermentation (decaying of fresh milk) functional characteristic possessed by E. Coli makes it be classified under saprophytic.

Yes, Nirmal! The answer should be D. "A" is doubtful because majority of the bacteria are living as free-living or found in association with animals/plants etc. They can be hyper parasitic. You know, majority of the fungi are saprophytic as they mainly thrive them shelf on dead organic material.
