Work done in free expansion process is zero because there is no boundary move. (free expansion means expansion against vacuum and in this process enthalpy, internal energy and temperature is constant).

Consider an insulated container divided into two parts, ideal gas is filled in one compartment other is evacuated. When partition is removed gas moved to vacuum there is change in volume but work done is zero vacuum has no resistance.
