No stresses are developed as there is no restriction for material flow or shrinkage, stresses are induced only when there is a restriction.

Compressive stress is induced because when cooling the material will contract, hence there is resistance by the molecules of the material.

Tensile stress will develop only if both the ends of a bar is fixed. Otherwise on free contraction and expansion, no stress will develop.

It's definitely tensile stress as the resistance has to be against compression which is tensile stress as cooling results in contraction.

When the bar is cooled then it is want to contract but the support tends to tensile load so the stress is induced in the bar is tensile.

Tensile stress is right answer. When bar cooled it molecules shrinks so they will try to expand due to resistance tensile force.

When the bar is cooled. It has been prevented for expansion. So it is try to expands. So there will tensile stress is produced.

Correct answers is no stress, when two bar fixed at both end during heating tensile, during cooling compression will occur.

Data in question is not sufficient, if there has no restriction for contract then there will no stress will develop.

We thick analytically then we found that there is no resistance in opposite of contraction. So there is no stress.
