Segmental chip are formed due to property of cast iron because cast iron content carbon 2.1% to 6.667% so high percentage of carbon its hardness or brittleness increases and segmental chip formed.

During machining of hard and brittle work pieces the chip formation is discontinuous. And by using small rake angle, low speed machining.
Large uncut chip thickness we find discontinuous chips.

Segmented chips are nothing but discontinuous chips which are formed by the brittle material during machining, among the options the most favoured option is cast iron which is brittle material.

Segmental means discontinuous either of regular shape or irregular shape. If irregular shape then sure brittle material. If regular shape-then ductile material on multipoint cutter.

Segmental chips are the discontinuous chips. During machining process of brittle materials like cast iron get plastic deformation and results as a segmental chips.

Chips produce for hard and brittle material are known as discontinuous chips as cast iron is a hard and brittle material therefore chips are discontinuous.

The more the carbon content the more the material is brittle incase of steel.

Segmental chips are produced with brittle materials like cast iron but continuous chip can be produced with brittle material if the cutting speed is high.

Segmental chips is known as discontinuous chips. Therefore discontinuous chips are formed during the machining of brittle materials like cast iron.
