Diesel engine may have 2 or 4 valves. It has one injection port to inject diesel.

It has actually two valves. First is inlet & other is outlet FI working like Valve. :).

The diesel engine has 2 valves for SOHC or 4 valves for DOHC in each cylinder.

In case of two stroke engines there are 3 ports but in 4 stroke engines only two valves.

We cannot say FI is a valve.

In diesel engine either 2 valve or 4 valve are present.

But in some case solenoid (DICOR) is treated as valve so total 3 or 5 valve could be said.

A valve is a device that regulates, directs or controls the flow of a fluid (gases, liquids, fluidized solids, or slurries) by opening, closing, or partially obstructing various passageways.

According to this, In diesel Engine three Valves are one for Intake Air, 2nd for Exhaust gas and 3rd is for Fuel (Injector).
