Discussion :: Theme Detection - Theme Detection (Q.No.5)

Each of the following questions contains a small paragraph followed by a question on it. Read each paragraph carefully and answer the question given below it.

5.

The future of women in India is quite bright and let us hope that they will justify their abilities by rising to the occasion. Napoleon was right when he declared that by educating the women we can educate the whole nation. Because a country can never rise without the contribution of 50% of their population.

The passage best supports the statement that:

[A]. India is striving hard for the emancipation of women.
[B]. all women should be well educated.
[C]. a nation can progress only when women are given equal rights and opportunities as men.
[D]. women ought to be imparted full freedom to prove their worth and contribute to the progress of the nation.

Why cant the ans be c?

Hemraj said: (Feb 27, 2011)
Acc 2 me the answer c is more accurate than the D option as the involvement of the "50% of their population " and the phrase "equal rights and opportunities as men" in the answer C make it distinguishable than D and even more accurate. Please provide some extra points, if the answer D is the right answer.

I agree ans should be c.

Deepthi Sree said: (Sep 18, 2011)
No where in the passage its indicated that equal rights given to women along with men. So its clear D option.

Arpit K. Raizada said: (Sep 25, 2011)
Hey Deepthi i m agree wid ur point bt also this passage doesn't indiate anything related to imparting full freedom to women...??

Ayush Nigam said: (Jul 8, 2012)
Ya I am also agreeing with arpit so by my opinion it should be B as regarding educated it is clearly mentioned.

Grace said: (Apr 12, 2013)
Its D. Because the first sentence clearly states that women should justify their abilities which they can do so by giving them full freedom to education in relation to Indian culture.

Manisha said: (May 18, 2013)
The answer D is correct women has full freedom to prove their worth and to contribute their progress to the nation.

Jagtar Rana said: (Jun 22, 2013)
Ya D is ok but at the same time option C also supporting the whole paragraph so it is contradiction here in selecting right answer.

Vanita said: (Oct 21, 2013)
Even I feel that the option should be C as according the first line that women should justify their abilities it implies if given equal rights they can rise to the occasion.

Manish said: (Feb 2, 2014)
I think answer will be option (C) because by following passage it is clear that any country will progress if women will participate.

Amit said: (Mar 26, 2014)
I don't think that there is any single reason that option C will not be answer.

Ganesh Kumaran said: (May 28, 2014)
The Paragraph speaks about 'educating a woman can bring progress to a nation'. It does not speaks about 'equal rights' to women in any part of the paragraph. Hence surely option 'C' could not be a answer. The line 'their abilities by raising to the occasion' substantiate that Option 'D' is the right option.

Neeraj said: (Jul 19, 2014)
Exactly there was nothing mentioned as freedom in the whole paragraph. If the answer is D then why it couldn't be C ?

Ashna said: (Jul 28, 2014)
I think the answer should be B. The passage does not talk about the rights of women. It talks about importance of education for women. The Napoleon example strengthens this point.

Ayan said: (Aug 12, 2014)
Hey guys why are you overlooking the B opt?

Because it is clearly mentioned in the para...No other opt has that much clarity.

Neeraj said: (Aug 14, 2014)
No where in the passage tells the something about 'full freedom' and the answer should clearly be D.

Souravnath said: (Dec 15, 2014)
Justification of abilities is mentioned in passage.

Dhilip said: (Apr 6, 2015)
I too don't think D is right. In the para they didn't talk about women freedom. C looks best.

Shivanshi said: (Sep 1, 2015)
According to me option C is correct because the word freedom is mentioned in paragraph which is given in option D.

Vedant said: (Sep 27, 2016)
Answer should be A or B.

A because the 1st line on para says future of women of India is bright why it is bright? because India is striving hard for their emancipation.

Also, all women should be educated is also correct.

Harsh said: (Feb 17, 2017)
Answer should be option A.

Ashish said: (Apr 9, 2017)
C not "only " word conflict the theme of passage and there is no line at rights so D.

Prachi Bansal said: (Apr 19, 2017)
I think the correct option should be (b).

Aman Bhadauria said: (Jun 24, 2017)
D is the correct choice. For the reason, the paragraph in the first statement it is clearly written "let us hope that they will justify their abilities by rising to the occasion" so in opt D saying "to prove their worth". One can prove one's worth and can contribute to the country's development only by justifying one's abilities. I hope my point will clear the doubts of this logic.

Gulshan Chauhan said: (Jul 5, 2017)
Agree @Aman. I think answer D is correct.

Aseem said: (Jul 12, 2017)
Let's differentiate between the subjects. Women need to do some action and India as a nation should do other action. Options A and D logically mean the same, only when there is a concern of liberation by the hands of the nation or a powerful party as in the passive voice of option D. Though the part of freedom (in D) is not mentioned in the paragraph, it is self-evident. The Progress of the nation now comes in the picture with the reference to Napoleon's utterance about education being the premise to developing the nation. Now, the point being the mention of word 'India' appears to weigh option A. Still, it states neither about the education nor about freedom. In this case, option D seems mostly positive.

Mukesh Tripathi said: (Jul 19, 2017)
I think C is better option b/c the word equal right and opportunity also denotes freedom to women.
