Logical Reasoning - Statement and Conclusion - Discussion

Discussion Forum : Statement and Conclusion - Section 3 (Q.No. 3)
Directions to Solve

In each question below is given a statement followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. You have to assume everything in the statement to be true, then consider the two conclusions together and decide which of them logically follows beyond a reasonable doubt from the information given in the statement.

Give answer:

  • (A) If only conclusion I follows
  • (B) If only conclusion II follows
  • (C) If either I or II follows
  • (D) If neither I nor II follows and
  • (E) If both I and II follow.

3.

Statements: Wind is an inexhaustible source of energy and an aerogenerator can convert it into electricity. Though not much has been done in this field, the survey shows that there is vast potential for developing wind as alternative source of energy.

Conclusions:

  1. Energy by wind is comparatively newly emerging field.
  2. The energy crisis can be dealt by exploring more in the field of aero-generation.
Only conclusion I follows
Only conclusion II follows
Either I or II follows
Neither I nor II follows
Both I and II follow
Answer: Option
Explanation:
The phrase 'not much has been done in this field' indicates that wind energy is a comparatively newly emerging field. So, I follows. The expression 'there is vast potential for developing wind as alternative source of energy' proves II to be true.

The answer should be B. Since the statement not much has been done indicates that the field is explorable. But from no where it can be concluded that it is emerging.

2 conclusion hence option B.

It should be A. It shouldn't be B, because we don't know if there is an ENERGY CRISIS, which has to be solved.

You are absolutely correct @Devansh.

@Devansh.

You are ignoring the hidden idea. In the opening line it mentions that wind is the alternative source because we are in some short of energy. We explore for alternatives when more when we lack the main source. So II follows. However, I doubt the I one.

There is no reference to energy crisis. Wind is only an alternative means besides Thermal / Hydel / Nuclear / Solar sources. There is a pollution crisis but not energy crisis in as much as other sources are not able to deliver.

Thus II is not implicit.

Here, it is not mentioned about the energy crisis. so how can statement 2 follow?

Vinayak Mehta said:   4 years ago
It should be 'D' because it is possible that generating electricity from wind is an 'old' concept but not developed.

Also, nothing about the crisis is mentioned.

Answer should A because their is nothing mentioned about energy crisis.

Agree with you, @Vinayak Mehta.

Because here, it's not mentioned about new or old and crisis.
