Statements: Prime age school-going children in urban India have now become avid as well as more regular viewers of television, even in households without a TV. As a result there has been an alarming decline in the extent of readership of newspapers.

In the last sentence used a word "as a result" then how come first statement can not follow. Could any one please explain.?

Clearly A because the second statement does state how watching of TV has led to reduced readership of newspapers.

Conclusion should not consist the part of statement.
