If there is a decline in something, should not efforts be made to improve the situation?

In the statement its clearly mentioned "there has been an alarming decline in the extent of readership of newspapers".

Even then the explanation given says stress is on tv viewership & not on newspapers.

In the last sentence used a word "as a result" then how come first statement can not follow. Could any one please explain.?

Conclusion should not consist the part of statement.

I think we should not predict the output in-order just to find whether the conclusion given by them satisfies the statement and not that we should decide the result.

If so then it is correct that both does not follow. They give only suggestions and not the conclusion.

In my opinion the answer should be 'a' as the last line of the passage clearly gives stress on the decline in the newspaper readership. Words like 'as a result' & 'alarming decline' make it ('a') an obvious choice.

No there is no relevant connection between two arguments, so neither one nor two follows it.

Yes it is very much difficult to discuss on this, every different person may deduce their own views.

I think the answer should have been "A".

AS A RESULT and ALARMING DECLINE indicate that instead of the increasing viewership of TV the writer is more concerned with the result decline in newspaper readership, which he/she finds ALARMING. The writer has not linked the increase of TV viewership with health or something related but only the decline in newspaper readership. So, drawing a conclusion should also lay stress on readership. If one is alarmed by something, one has to take steps to invert the act, in case to increase the declining readership.

A/c to the statement both 1 and 2 conclusion are valid as it speaks both about the impact of the TV and as a result there is a decline in the readership of newspaper.

So, I guess correct answer is E.
