Directions to Solve

In each question below is given a statement followed by two assumptions numbered I and II. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions and decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement.

Give answer

  • (A) If only assumption I is implicit
  • (B) If only assumption II is implicit
  • (C) If either I or II is implicit
  • (D) If neither I nor II is implicit
  • (E) If both I and II are implicit.

36.

Statement: Do not copy our software without our permission - A notice.

Assumptions:

  1. It is possible to copy the software.
  2. Such warning will have some effect.

Only assumption I is implicit
Only assumption II is implicit
Either I or II is implicit
Neither I nor II is implicit
Both I and II are implicit
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Since the notice warns one against copying software without permission, it is evident that software can be copied. So, I is implicit. Also, the warning is given with the motive that no one dares to copy the software. So, II is also implicit.

Warning may have effect would make this answer right but using "will" makes it wrong according to me.

I concluded A because assumption II implied that the warning WOULD have an effect which cannot reasonably be assumed. The warning did not state any kind of punishment which would make the warning even more unlikely to be effective.

Generally warnings are given when there is a possibility for that situation so that the situation can be avoided. That means the given statement implies assumption I.
