Directions to Solve

In each question below is given a statement followed by two assumptions numbered I and II. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions and decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement.

Give answer

  • (A) If only assumption I is implicit
  • (B) If only assumption II is implicit
  • (C) If either I or II is implicit
  • (D) If neither I nor II is implicit
  • (E) If both I and II are implicit.

8.

Statement: If it is easy to become an engineer, I don't want to be an engineer.

Assumptions:

  1. An individual aspires to be professional.
  2. One desires to achieve a thing which is hard earned.

Only assumption I is implicit
Only assumption II is implicit
Either I or II is implicit
Neither I nor II is implicit
Both I and II are implicit
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Clearly, nothing is mentioned about the professional nature of the job. So, I is not implicit. The statement hints that one rejects a thing that is easy to achieve. So, II is implicit.

I think Assumption 2 follows.

I think the answer should be neither, as II is a generic statement.

But statement II is about a 'me' implying distinction whereas the assumption is 'one' implying generalisation. So shouldn't it be none of the above?

It is talking about easy how can we talk about hard maybe he desires moderate level.

It's all about one who hates engineering. Which is not important that he desires more difficult path!

But how can we assume about "one" on the basis of "I's" opinion?

Titi said:   8 years ago
The option B is 100% right. Becoming an engineer is very easy. So the person wants something earned hard.

On the basis of I one can not assume of everyone.

This looks like a conclusion and not an assumption. And generally assumptions are not generic.

I'm of the same opinion as @Aaanchal. The statement is about me. Hence the assumption cannot be about people in general which is what 'one' implies.
