Discussion Forum : Statement and Assumption - Section 1 (Q.No. 16)
Directions to Solve
In each question below is given a statement followed by two assumptions numbered I and II. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions and decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement.
Give answer
- (A) If only assumption I is implicit
- (B) If only assumption II is implicit
- (C) If either I or II is implicit
- (D) If neither I nor II is implicit
- (E) If both I and II are implicit.

Statement: Please do not use lift while going down - an instruction on the top floor of a five-storey building.
Assumptions:
- While going down, the lift is unable to carry any load.
- Provision of lift is a matter of facility and not of right.
Answer: Option
Explanation:
The statement requests people not to use lift while moving down. This implies that the lift may be used to move up and the request has been made so that more people can use the lift for ascending which would otherwise cause more physical stress than going down the stairs. So, only II is implicit.

Sir can you please explain to us. Why the option 2is implicit and not the option 1?

Statement II is implicit:
Providing a lift by a building is a facility to people going in the building. Thus, it is the right of owner to allow ascending or descending or none. Thus, 2 is implicit. (It isn't our right to go and use any lift in buildings without authority!)
The statement I is implicit:
There has to be a technical issue with the lift during descending. Thus, for safety purposes, the note mentions not to use it for descending purpose.

I think 1st assumption can also be taken.
I am not getting the meaning of 2nd assumption. So please anyone explain me.

I don't understand why one is not implicit and what is the meaning of second assumption?

Neither Assumption is Implicit.
"Lift provision is matter of facility not a right"is a superfluous statement.
Had the Assumption 2 been : Need for lift facility is more for People moving to Upper floors than those going to bottom.
2nd statement could have followed.

Option D is 100% correct answer.

Neither is implicit, the statement doesn't clearly or indirectly states and reason for not to use the lift while going down, so option D should be the answer.

Absolutely true, neither is implicit.

It should be (D) neither implicit.
