Statement: The management of XYZ Pvt. Ltd. asked the workers' union to call off strike immediately otherwise the management would be forced to close down the factory.

Assumptions:

1. No alternative other than closing down the factory is left for the management of XYZ Pvt. Ltd
2. Such threat may have some effect on the workers' union.

Only assumption I is implicit
Only assumption II is implicit
Either I or II is implicit
Neither I nor II is implicit
Both I and II are implicit
Explanation:
Such a warning is usually given to the workers to threaten them that they would lose their job and income forever if they didn't mend their ways. So, only II is implicit.

I think it should be both implicit.

Where does the statement imply that this might just be a ruse to put an end to the protest?

Management of the company may be either telling truth that they have no option left or they are just threatening the workers to lift the strike. Hence either of these can be assumed.

Both should be implicit.

I think it should be 1 and 11. Because management has no ways that's why they are threatening by saying to shut down the factory. Correct me if I am wrong.

It concludes that one general assumption is that they follow the demands of workers, it is obvious so it is available alternative.

Hope it help.
