Discussion Forum : Statement and Assumption - Section 5 (Q.No. 19)
Directions to Solve

In each question below is given a statement followed by three assumptions numbered I, II and III. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions, decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement and choose your answer accordingly.

19.

Statement: An advertisement of Bank X - "Want to open a bank account! Just dial our 'home service' and we will come at your doorsteps."

Assumptions:

  1. No other bank makes available service at the doorstep of the customer.
  2. People may choose Bank X for their financial transactions.
  3. Nowadays banking has become very competitive.

Only I and II are implicit
Only II and III are implicit
Only I and III are implicit
All are implicit
None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:
The advertisement seeks to attract people to open their account in Bank X by promising them service at their doorstep. Since home service' has been used as a tool for earning clientage, so I is implicit. Also, the advertisement seeks to impress upon the people's minds how simple it has become to open an account. This may attract more account holders to Bank X. So, II is implicit. Further, providing banking services at home means that banking has become so competitive that door-to-door service is being provided by the Bank to attract people. Hence, III is also implicit.

People MAY choose Bank X for their financial transactions.
However it is not necessary that they should choose;
So the sentence is a valid assumption.

There is no evidence that no other bank is having home service tool, and also no information about transaction so only 3 is implicit.

How can we say that no any other bank is providing same facility?

I have the same point there is no statement than any other bank is providing or not providing doorsteps. So for me assumption ine is not valid.

Ya, there is no comparison type (only) word with other Banks and also no description of Financial transactions for this bank. So both 2 cannot be implicit and for 3rd one, there is also no direct clue for competition, but if advertisement is there so may be competition can be. So third can be implicit.

This complete topic appears rather dubious and erroneous to me. No particular trend has been followed.

Nowadays banking has become competitive. III is implicit. People may choose bank for their financial transactions that are why that advertisement was put up by the bank. II is also implicit. No info regarding other banks have been given or nothing mentioned in the statement that our is the only bank that provides doorstep services. I is not implicit.

[B] Only II and III are implicit.
