James runs faster and is alongside the dog on the left. Ruby runs faster and is alongside the dog on the right. Which child is directly behind the dog?

In the question it is mentioned that max goes behind ruby. But it isn't clear that he was behind Rachel or front of her. So the answer could be either max/Rachel.

Its Max because Max comes behind Ruby and Ruby and James goes alongside of the dog and Rachel is behind Max.
Max comes in between Ruby and Rachel.

The passage didn't say that Max was "directly" behind Ruby. Therefore it is unclear that Max was in front of Rachel.
