Discussion Forum : Logical Deduction - Section 1 (Q.No. 20)
Directions to Solve

In each question below are given two statements followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. You have to take the given two statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts. Read the conclusion and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the two given statements, disregarding commonly known facts.

Give answer:

  • (A) If only conclusion I follows
  • (B) If only conclusion II follows
  • (C) If either I or II follows
  • (D) If neither I nor II follows and
  • (E) If both I and II follow.

20.

Statements: All jungles are tigers. Some tigers are horses.

Conclusions:

  1. Some horses are jungles.
  2. No horse is jungle.
Only conclusion I follows
Only conclusion II follows
Either I or II follows
Neither I nor II follows
Both I and II follow
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Since the middle term 'tigers' is not distributed even once in the premises, no definite conclusion follows. However, I and II involve only the extreme terms and form a complementary pair. So, either I or II follows.

The Correct Answer is (B).

Because it is clearly given in the problem that "All the jungles are Tiger " means according to Diagram middle circle is of "jungle" and the Circle of the tiger is whole cover it and now secondly it is given --"Some Horses are Tiger " means some part of Horses are covered only the Tiger part and no any part of Horses is covered in Jungle means Horses having no any connection with the jungle.

So automatically such option are wrong Who represent any connection of Horses with jungle?

According to the statement, Horses connection is only with tigers but not with the jungle. So finally Option B is correct.

Here we have used major and minor term, the predicate and the subject of the conclusion. They are part of the conclusion I and II and according to the rules of syllogism they form a complementary pair. Hence the option is correct.

Option C is correct because the basic diagram satisfied the negative conclusion so we draw a complementary diagram for the negative conclusion then conclusion 1 satisfies in the alternative diagram so either 1 or 2 follows.

Answer C is correct. Let me explain this. Some horses are jungles. No horse is jungle. We should n't know which one will be the option so answer is Either I or II follows.

Middle term tiger is not distribute atleast once. Suppose you convert the first statement as a particular type even both statement particular. So no conclusion and D.

The answer must be A. When All Jungles are tigers and some tigers are Horses. That means some jungles are horses too, how can you say that no horse is jungle ?

Since commom is not distributed in both statements and hence no conclusion occurs. So correct answer should be option D.

Answer must be A because when some jungles are horses, how it could be that no horse is jungle.

@Hasini is right. Answer is D. Since middle term tiger is not distribute at-least once.
