Directions to Solve

In each of the following questions, two statements numbered I and II are given. There may be cause and effect relationship between the two statements. These two statements may be the effect of the same cause or independent causes. These statements may be independent causes without having any relationship. Read both the statements in each question and mark your answer as

  • (A) If statement I is the cause and statement II is its effect;
  • (B) If statement II is the cause and statement I is its effect;
  • (C) If both the statements I and II are independent causes;
  • (D) If both the statements I and II are effects of independent causes; and
  • (E) If both the statements I and II are effects of some common cause.

5.

Statements:

I think C should be the answer because the increase in demand for tea in the European market would be the MAIN cause behind the increase in the value of tea by govt of India (as in statement 1 it is said).

Then increase in demand for coffee in the domestic market would also be a cause due to which suppose (just assume) that the price of a coffee would have been increased.

So, both these statements clearly indicate 2 totally different causes which can EASILY give rise to different effects.

D is the right answer. You need to know the difference in a 'cause' and an 'effect' before answering this one.

Cause :- A person or thing that gives rise to an action, phenomenon, or condition.
Effect :- A change which is a result or consequence of an action or other cause.

If we export more of tea, less will be available in the domestic country. Due to this the price of tea will rise, so demand for it will fall and hence people will demand more of coffee (substitute for tea).

If more amount of tea is being exported to the European countries then we will have less amount of tea with us which will result in the consumption of coffee as a substitute.

If we see demand law then when demand of tea in foreign countries rises then, we will face scarcity of tea and as a result in our country demand of coffee will increase.

We have to understand that in the question tea as a substitute of coffee is not given. So we can't assume it to be. Just avoid this and you will get C answer.

Cause means the reason why something has happened effect is the result.

In this question, I think statement both A and B are effects of something.

I. India's exports are the result of increased demand = effect. How are increased exports a cause? Exporting more does not cause more consumption.

I think C is correct.

The effect and cause of statement I was clearly stated.

Statement II is an effect but the cause is unknown.
