Hard work means without any planning we are doing any work throughout day and night.
But smart work means first think that the work which you want to do what are the possible ways to do it so that with minimum input you can get maximum output and then do work.

Hard work - It means that you work in a gruelling manner; for instance, spending 10+ hours studying for an exam.
Smart work - Smart work can go hand in hand with hard work. But 'smart work' means that you use an efficient method to finish a particular task. For instance, referring the above example, you use a specific method to study for an exam that saves your time, as well as prepares you for it perfectly.

Hard work includes physical efforts and less planning whereas Smart work includes less physical work and more planning. We can do a work by working smart in less time as compared to working smart.

Hard work is not only the physical strength, It is also mental efforts you put in it.
While smart work requires a lot of hard work and patience to gather the experiences.
From past and to utilise them in present as well as future,
So in my option, both are necessary to attain a particular goal.
