Hard work mean it may be a physical work or thinking normally.

Smart work in the sense thinking laterally or logically and completing the work with short time by using intelligence.

Hard work is analysis of problem with huge thinking or working.

Ultimately smart work with hard work is 100% allowed.

I think both hard work and smart work are correct but the difference between them is Hard work shows that how healthy and fit enough your body is and Smart work shows that how you are brain is very active and differently thinking.

But hard work does not give you a grant success within a short period of time and you should work a lot.
