According to me, hard work and smart work are both interlinked with each other. Rather, I can say both are dependent on each other. Smart work will only be done when we have done Hard work in the past. So Hard work is basically a devotion while smart work is an application.

Both are the keys to success, but the only difference is hardwork gives us the experience whereas smart work comes from the experience. When we work hard we get expertise, and helps us to do that work smartly.

Smart Work and Hard Work are two faces of the same coin which is called success.
The fine difference between them is - hard work can give you short term success but smart work will give you success for your whole life. Smart work will precede hard work.

Hard work involves effort to get things done, while smart work focuses on finding efficient ways to achieve the same result.
Combining both ensures success with optimal effort and time.
