'I can do this'.
This is confidence because I am making a statement on myself since I know what my ability is.
'Only I can do this'.
This is over confidence because I am making a statement on others without knowing their ability.

Thinking in different ways and solving the problem quick is smart.
Thinking in one way and doing the same to get the problem is hard work.

Basically, hard work includes one's willpower, patient and lots of effort but smart work deals with logical thinking. It needs the brain mostly.

There is a lot of ways to complete a work but a hard worker doesn't choose the easy track he blindly put his all efforts that consumes a lot of energy and time. A smart worker applies his mind and chooses that track that consumes less energy and time.

Sir in my opinion hard work leads smart work.
If you work hard in the beginning you can learn new things. Which can help you to work smartly in hard work your body leads. But in smart work your brain leads.

According to me, hard work means stressing, working effectively hard to complete a particular task on/ in time.
While on the other hand smart work means extracting the task in an indirect way rather than working hard.
Example- consider two students A and B.
A study day and night. But B studies only important questions. Both A and B passes the examination. A denotes hard work.
B denotes smart work.
