In my opinion, hard work means a great deal of effort in a maximum period of time but smart work is when that same work is done instant with proper planning.

Hardwork is when you put in a lot of effort to achieve some goal.

Smart work is when you achieve the same goal with less effort making use of some strategic planning with a more pragmatic approach.
